Boss Woman: Mithali Raj
Captain of the Indian women's cricket team, Mithali Raj is an inspiration, to say the least. In a rendezvous with the sportswoman, we discovered her way with wellness, health and happiness. Here's what she had to say:
Wellness is being organised
I plan my day well in advance. I believe that having an organised day is of paramount importance. When you are organised, it gives you contentment and peace, which naturally brings a lot of happiness into your life.
I do a balance of cardio and strength training to keep fit
I am 34 years old and have had a long career. Over the years, I have suffered injuries that have become chronic. So, it is imperative for me to do certain exercises everyday to maintain my levels of fitness. I have a balance of cardio and strength training in my workout. For me, strength training is very important as it gives me sustenance on the ground. It also gives my muscles a lean look. I can’t go to the gym everyday because it tires the muscles; I run on days when I don’t hit the gym.
Eating on time is very important
I am a sportsperson, so I stay away from aerated drinks, fried food and too many sweets. My meals are all about grilled food, vegetables salads and nuts – I eat more proteins and less of carbohydrates. Eating on time is very important for me. I make sure that I finish dinner early because I have early morning training sessions and can’t get much done with a heavy stomach.
Yoga makes me feel light
Yoga helps me stretch my stressed out muscles and gives me more flexibility. When you are playing back-to-back games and don’t have enough time to recover, yoga is a great way to relax and revive tired muscles. The asanas and breathing techniques help remove the clutter from the system and make me feel light.
I love oil massages
I am not regular at spas and love to indulge only after a long and intense tour. My favourite is a vigorous oil massage.
